Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has said the government is prepared to address concerns raised by traditional leaders in Zambezi to transform the region into Namibia's breadbasket.

The premier addressed the annual Lusata Cultural Festival of the Mafwe Traditional Authority over the weekend.

"We shall continue to ensure that every village has a borehole for drinking water, food production, and livestock. Yes, every Namibian, especially those in rural areas and informal settlements, must have access to dignified sanitation facilities; this is a matter of human rights."

Lusata Cultural Festival, the last festival of the four traditional authorities, was attended by other traditional authorities from Botswana and Zambia.

Litunga George Mamili VII assured the audience that the Mafwe Traditional Authority is prepared to collaborate with the government in eradicating poverty and promoting economic prosperity.

"We are ready to avail fertile land for economic development. We invite the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, and that of International Relations and Trade, to come and engage us in serious discussions that will see land being used to create more economic opportunities for everyone."

The Litunga encouraged Namibians to reject division and embrace opportunities, stressing that poverty is not Namibia's destiny.

He also touched on the need to promote cultural diversity in ways that attract tourists and grow the economy.

Mamili VII also proposed the establishment of a border post between Chinchimane and Parakarungu in Botswana.

"Our tourists from the Nkasa Rupara, Mashi, and Bamunu conservancies will easily enter Botswana from the proposed border crossing, the Chincimane-Parakarungu border post."

It would serve to reduce transport costs while discouraging illegal border crossing and poaching.

The Mafwe Traditional Authority appealed to the government to strengthen education and skills development for all the youth while also underscoring the need for traditional leaders to support its vision.
