Okahandja Mayor Beatrice Kotungondo gave an update on ongoing investigations into the killings that occurred in the town earlier this year and on the municipality's steps to improve public safety.

Kotungondo informed journalists that the municipality has installed CCTV cameras directly connected to the Okahandja police station.

She said that while the installations have progressed, the municipality needs to pay an additional N$100,000 for the company to complete the work.

"This year, Okahandja has faced some gruesome murders; the culprits are still at large, and ensuring the safety of our residents remains a priority; therefore, we maintain a very close working relationship with the police and security companies in and around town. We still urge the community of Okahandja: if you have any information, the reward is still standing. If you have any information, please do come forth. I'm sure the police will protect your identity and will not reveal who gave this information."

Police have opened investigations into the deaths of three girls earlier this year: Ingrid Maasdorp (5), Roswindis Fabiani (6), and Beyoncé !Kharuxas (15).

Authorities said no arrests had been made in relation to these cases, adding that the investigations are ongoing.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects has been put at N$120,000.

The killings prompted countrywide public demonstrations and a march in Okahandja, during which community members demanded action from law enforcement and other government agencies.
