Former High Commissioner to Nigeria, Humphrey Geiseb, has commended the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for providing consistent service to Namibians abroad.
Geiseb paid a courtesy visit to the leadership team of the broadcaster at Cullinan Street.
During discussions with the NBC Director General, Ambassador Geiseb said the national broadcaster's initiative to launch the free NBC Plus app has kept the diaspora informed on breaking news and national dialogue in the country.
Geiseb expressed appreciation to NBC for the broadcaster's efforts in incorporating user feedback into its digital platforms.
"We urge the Namibian diaspora abroad to continue using the app to stay informed about developments at home. We are truly grateful for the breaking news from NBC that keeps us informed about developments in Namibia. At times, it's good to get the visuals. Sometimes, we also have access to all the radio stations. I often tune in to the national radio station for interviews that air around 9 o'clock in the morning. So I find it quite informative that NBC is really doing this national service to Namibians at home and abroad."
NBC Director General Stanley Similo said the broadcaster operates with professional standards.
He said the priority when it comes to reporting is fairness and accuracy.
"We don't create stories; we report on them. What matters is giving people the right to reply, especially on contentious issues."
He added that NBC maintains ethical guidelines and is recognised within the region and internationally.
