A team of experts from the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture is assessing the condition of infrastructure of tertiary public institutions to identify gaps and develop a national plan for such facilities.

The team paid a courtesy to Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb to brief him about their mission. 

The head of the delegation, Josephina Jekonia, said after collecting the data, they will carefully analyse it to address key major gaps identified and submitted by the institutions.

Dr. Jekonia stressed the aim is to raise the standard of such facilities to the desired standard that will promote the performance of students.

"We are a team established by the Ministry of Education called a technical working group, a team delegated countrywide to assess the current conditions of the educational infrastructure, especially tertiary educational infrastructure. So, we are busy assessing to identify the gaps or the challenges in existing facilities."

Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb urged institutions of higher learning not to work in silos but to foster collaboration amongst each other.  

"I really wish that tertiary education would focus on the expansion of studies in the field of agriculture in the Otjozondjupa Region. The Otjozondjupa region has fertile soil and an abundance of water all over, and it can become the breadbasket of Namibia. Therefore, our learners and students need training in the field of agriculture."

He believes that the presence of mining activities in the region would require technical skills, which begs the need for vocational training centres to work together.
