The Walvis Bay community paid tribute to the late businessman, John Savva, honouring his legacy and contributions to the coastal town.

Former President Nangolo Mbumba, Erongo Governor Nathalia |Goagoses, and former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Derek Klazen were among those who joined the mourners at the memorial service.

The Deputy Education Director for the Erongo Region, Natalia Guriras, described the late Savva as a community builder and an unwavering friend of education.

"He built two science laboratories and added two classrooms at Duinesig High School, a tangible investment that will continue to empower generations of learners to dream bigger and achieve more. His belief in education as a pathway to opportunity and empowerment lives on."

The former Deputy Minister of Labour Relations and Employment Creations, Hafeni Ndemula, also reflected on a personal memory of when the late philanthropist became a source of comfort to him during a difficult period of his life.

"I remember back in 2012 on the 12th of December, my younger brother passed on, and three days after that, my mother passed on. He was a pillar to lean on, made a call, and we sat together. He comforted me as a father would comfort his children, so we'll never forget a man like him."

The Walvis Bay-based businessman died on Saturday from heart-related issues.

The tribute service forms part of a series of events scheduled to honour the life of the man popularly known as "Uncle Savva" by different communities.
