The 10,000-strong community of Epinga Village in the Ohangwena region's Omundaungilo Constituency now has reliable access to the country's mobile networks.
This is thanks to the launch of a new 4G tower there, courtesy of the Universal Service Fund.
The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, noted that the Epinga tower marks a significant milestone in Namibia's digital inclusion agenda.
Theofelus added that connectivity has the power to transform lives by enabling learners to access online study materials, farmers to make informed market decisions, and clinics to improve healthcare through telemedicine.
"Today's event marks more than just the unveiling of a new piece of infrastructure. It represents our collective journey toward a more inclusive and connected Namibia. The launch of the USF Epinga Tower is a milestone that embodies progress, inclusion, and empowerment. It stands as a testament to our nation's ongoing dedication to ensuring that every Namibian, regardless of their location, has access to vital communication services. This tower serves as a gateway, providing access to opportunities, education, healthcare, and economic growth."
MTC Managing Director Dr. Licky Erastus said the new tower will provide thousands of residents with their first stable 4G connection.
"The commissioning of this tower represents more than infrastructure. It is a doorway to opportunity, to education, to business growth, and to strengthened social services. Through the nine new sites being deployed under this phase, over 9,985 Namibians will gain 4G access, many for the first time. In addition, about 10,277 customers will enjoy improved connectivity through 4G and Spectra services. These are not mere numbers but a reflection of lives changed and communities empowered. Connectivity is only meaningful when supported by suitable devices. Statistics on hand show that there are more than 1,448 basic and feature phones around this locality, Epinga, and the surrounding areas."
He explained that MTC staff are on hand to help residents set up their devices and transition smoothly to the new network.
In her welcoming remarks delivered by the Councillor of Omundaungilo Constituency, Festus Ikanda, the Governor of Ohangwena Region, Kadiva Hamutumwa, said the new tower addresses long-standing complaints from residents about poor mobile reception.
She emphasised that improved connectivity will support education, healthcare, and local businesses, while enabling families to communicate more easily with relatives in other regions.
She highlighted that schools will be able to integrate digital learning more effectively, giving students greater access to online resources and opportunities.
A teacher from Oshindombe Combined School in Epinga Village shared her excitement about how the new tower will support learning at the school and the broader village.
