Türkiye has expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Namibia in the mining, textiles, and construction sectors.
This follows the completion of 118 projects by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), covering key areas such as health, education, and agriculture.
Türkiye's Head of Mission in Namibia, Feral Çekerek Oruçkaptan, briefed President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on these developments during a meeting at State House.
"We are here to elevate our relations to the highest level, and that is why I am once again conveying the congratulatory messages of our President and our best wishes for the coming elections. Recently, I had been in Gobabis and Swakopmund to participate in the handover of five different projects. Some of the projects are designed to help the drought problem of Namibia, which was declared a state of emergency last year, and these are agricultural projects."
President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed appreciation for the continued strong growth of bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Türkiye.
Relations between the two countries date back to the 1960s, when Türkiye supported Namibia's struggle for independence, which has since transformed into a multi-dimensional partnership.
"We still know that your country was among the first countries that made up the UN Council of Namibia and how you supported the resolutions related to the independence of Namibia in the Security Council, and of course, then we formalised our bilateral relations. And for Türkiye to decide for TIKA Headquarters to be in Windhoek for Southern Africa, we really appreciate it because you find many institutions in our neighbourhood, and we are happy with TIKA. You are also covering other countries in Southern Africa, and that helped us when you were contributing to many of our programmes. That is good, and let us continue to strengthen our cooperation."
