The Rundu Town Council has launched its newly established traffic law enforcement unit.

Kavango East Regional Council Chairperson Damian Maghambayi applauded the council for its achievement in establishing the unit for traffic law enforcement.

"That's why it is so important that this unit be established to guard against all illegal activities and crime in this region. The roads are becoming busier and more congested, and the economic activities continue to expand. With this growth comes the responsibility to ensure that our road network is safe."

Rundu Town CEO, Olavi Nathanael, noted the unit is in line with the Local Authority Act, along with associated regulations.

"We are empowered under the community service department by traffic law enforcement, in addition to what we already have. There are two parts: one is for law enforcement, and the second arm is for traffic law enforcement. They can also enforce the bylaws, but also more so on the roads, traffic, and transport act."

Rundu Urban Councillor Victoria Kauma cautioned the law enforcement team to adhere to work ethics.

"We should not accept bribes, my brothers and sisters. Never accept a bribe, not even a single penny from the person you are investigating. I hope this team maintains a high standard of integrity and will effectively carry out my directives."

The law enforcement team demonstrated their skills with a parade, showcasing their newly acquired vehicles and equipment.
