Namibia will continue to prioritise the work of SADC, an institution mandated to advance regional integration.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed this commitment during a courtesy visit by SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi at State House.
Magosi's visit formed part of the SADC Secretariat's tradition of engaging newly elected leaders to discuss the organisation's work and ongoing regional initiatives.
"I really appreciate this visit. As you know, Namibia attaches importance to the work of our organisation, both in the area of integration as well as in the area of peace and security, and when I heard you were coming, I said that is good, as I will be updated on what is happening in the region both economically and politically. You are now inducting me into the work of SADC since I came into this office in a different role, and I really appreciate this interaction," said President Nandi-Ndaitwah.
In response, Magosi said, "I am here to brief you on the region, but also to seek counsel from you as an experienced leader in our region and having interacted with the regional bloc for many, many years. My role is to find out what the key things you would want to see in SADC as a region are to make sure that the region is stable, the region integrates as it was founded, and how the Secretariat can actually support and implement that."
