The Tsumeb Municipality says it is pleased with the progress reached in constructing key roads and in routine maintenance works that have been completed.
Some are set to remain in the works until 2026.
Assessing the situation were Engineering and Town Planning Manager Manuel Pedro, as well as representatives from the Roads Funds Administration (RFA) and the Roads Authority (RA), during a follow-up meeting since the parties entered a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023.
The project oversight is part of RFA's over N$40-million funding agreement to support Tsumeb's road maintenance needs.
Through these funds, the council completed five kilometres of reconstruction of the Namutoni route at N$22 million in August 2024.
Routine works on key roads to be completed between February and April 2026 will cost about N$22 million.
"So we started with the project; we started off with the rehabilitation of the Namutoni road, which used to be a national road, for roughly around 5.5 kilometres. The project commenced on the 27th of November 2024; it was successfully completed on the 8th of August 2025. The project is 100% completed, and we have utilised 95% of the budget. So it was actually a very nice project. At the same time, we started with the routine maintenance on the project with the contract amount of N$9.7 million, whereby they're doing their routine maintenance on some of the ulterior roads in Tsumeb."
Road Fund Administration Corporate Services Manager Ferdinand Molale reiterated the company's commitment to assisting local authorities to fund urban roads.
In the next financial year, the company will roll out N$704 million for such services.
Tsumeb Municipality acting Chief Executive Officer Frans Enkali said council was hard at work bringing services to its residents, and as such, residents must appreciate developments taking shape there.
