The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and Russia's national TV channel, RT, are in discussions to sign a memorandum of understanding focused on various areas of collaboration within the next few months.
This was announced during a meeting between NBC management and the representatives from RT Africa held in Windhoek earlier today.
NBC Director General Stanley Similo said the two entities have the potential to cooperate in terms of training, content sharing and co-production.
He further stated that NBC is looking into how RT can obtain a slot on the NBC Plus platform within the next few weeks.
"I think historically there's been a lot of information between the two countries long before independence. I think that we can latch on to and find ways of telling these stories to understand exactly because a great deal of our leadership actually found their feet somewhere in Russia as well."
The Head of RT Africa, Svyatoslav Shchegolev, stated that there are opportunities for training on their global online platform that provides editorial, production and technical training.
"We'll definitely consider making at least an online workshop dedicated solely to Namibia. So that would allow focusing on issues pertinent for local media. And in these workshops we cover both editorial questions, like how do you produce content, how do you produce scripts and so on. And also, as you asked for technological issues, we cover technological issues."
He says RT is looking forward to the cooperation with the national broadcaster.
