A total of 105 unemployed young people in Gam have successfully completed a skills and development training programme.
The training was facilitated by the Women Action for Development and the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, through its Youth, Sport and Innovation Division.
The training focused on the constitution, human rights, gender-related laws, hospitality and tourism, office administration, and computer literacy.
It was a day filled with pride at the achievement of the 105 unemployed youths who received certificates that showed the beginning of new opportunities.
The Chief Adult Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, |Uiseb Gerson, highlighted the importance of skills development training and emphasised the need to empower the unemployed youths in the Tsumkwe constituency.
"The employment opportunities are what we are sitting and waiting for, and we cannot sit and wait for life while we have our people in our community who possess skills, from whom we can learn new skills and create employment for ourselves. That's where our programmes come in to address that gap."
He also advised the youth to now go out and start with initiatives and not to sit with the certificates at home.
The speech of the Tsumkwe constituency councillor, Petrus Mutji, was read on his behalf.
"The knowledge and skills gained will open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and further training opportunities. To graduates, we are extremely proud of your achievements. You have demonstrated discipline, commitment, and resilience. Today you walk away with more than certificates; you walk away with skills that can change you, uplift your families, and contribute to the development of your community."
The training marks a meaningful step in reducing youth unemployment, especially in rural areas, with the youth expressing hope that the skills they gained will help them secure employment.
