Belgium is set to open an embassy in Namibia in the first half of 2027.
The announcement was made by Namibia's ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Alfredo Hengari, after presenting his letters of credence to King Philippe of the Belgians at the Royal Palace in Brussels.
Dr Hengari says the decision to establish a resident Belgian embassy in Namibia demonstrates strong confidence in the direction of bilateral relations between the two countries.
He added that the move is expected to deliver several tangible benefits for Namibia.
Hengari notes Belgium's strategic importance, as further highlighted by its ranking as Namibia's fifth-largest export destination globally in 2024, with exports valued at N$7,9 billion.
Namibia has maintained a consistent trade surplus with Belgium over an extended period, which he says strengthens the country's trade portfolio and current account position.
The opening of the embassy, Hengari says, is also expected to accelerate cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen, climate resilience, infrastructure development, trade, higher education, and scientific research.
