The Zambezi Governor's Office is receiving additional aid from the Red Cross, coordinated through the Office of the Prime Minister in response to ongoing floods.
Governor Dorothy Kabula expressed gratitude for the swift response from the government and stakeholders.
Beaven Walubita, Zambezi Regional Council director for planning and rural development, said the region is experiencing seasonal and flash floods due to heavy rain. The Kabbe North and Kabbe South constituencies face severe challenges with basic services like water and sanitation.
Walubita added that they visited the Muzii and Nankuntwe combined schools, which are affected by floods, and engaged communities on possible relocation.
Aid distribution has begun in some relocated areas, but Sibbinda Constituency residents say they still need more tents and mattresses. They lack water services at relocation sites and must return to flooded villages to fetch water.
Residents requested a water tank, especially for schoolchildren in the mornings, and urged the health ministry to provide mosquito nets promptly to prevent malaria outbreaks among children.
The region has received over 100 blankets and mattresses, 50 tents, 9,097 bags of 40 kg rice, 2,663 750 ml bottles of cooking oil, 4,104 pilchard tins, 83 kit crates of household utensils and basics, and 220 water bottles so far.
