South Korea, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme, has donated close to 5,000 metric tonnes of rice to support the drought relief programme.

The donation, valued at N$61 million, will be distributed across all 14 regions to vulnerable communities and indigenous groups.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare says the support could not have come at a better time, as it will also support those affected by floods in the Zambezi Region, as well as malnutrition cases in the Omaheke Region.

Namibia and South Korea have shared diplomatic ties since Namibia's independence in 1990.

When drought struck in 2024, South Korea moved swiftly, having provided N$500,000 worth of humanitarian aid to 25,000 affected individuals.

South Korean Ambassador to Namibia, Kwangin Choi, said the donation is not merely a transfer of resources but a symbol of Korea's unwavering commitment to stand with Namibia in times of unpredictable challenges.
