President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says that Workers' Day on May 1 will feature joint preparations by workers, the government, and employers in a tripartite arrangement.
The President highlighted workers' important role in driving Namibia's economy during a meeting with the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) delegation, led by Secretary General Job Muniaro.
Muniaro said this is historical, especially with the motivation from a leader of the country to motivate workers to work harder.
He emphasised the importance of unions ensuring that workers' rights are protected and that any abuses faced by workers are addressed in a collaborative manner.
This, he said, is a very good foundation for unity, for embracing the work of the Namibian workers and boosting the economy.
Muniaro also addressed employer challenges, including worker discipline, late arrivals, and delays in completing tasks, which hinder economic growth.
He called for better training, reskilling, and upskilling to boost productivity.
He said this year's theme focuses on upskilling, reskilling, training, and value addition to guarantee jobs and knowledge.
