The Office of the Zambezi Governor handed over 2900 sanitary pads to the education directorate through the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.
The donation follows an initiative launched by Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare to break barriers for albinism and menstrual health.
The delivery of the sanitary pads is a critical step in addressing period poverty, which significantly impacts the educational opportunities for young girls.
Zambezi Governor Dorothy Kabula welcomed the donation.
"These items are for the girls, especially from schools and those flood-prone areas. Like Muzii, Mpukano and Nankutwe, who are surrounded by floodwater. Therefore, we are very thankful to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare for this donation. And I would like to urge, as a governor, other stakeholders to do the same. We are still hard hit with floods here in the Zambezi region," she said.
Education regional director Alex Sikume pledged support to the girl-child.
"We will ensure that the girl child receives this support, these schools. Especially those schools that are earmarked, that are surrounded by water, that were relocated, we will ensure that this donation gets to the intended recipients," he said.
