A power outage struck Canchana Village in the Kavango West Region, disrupting water supply to Raina Mungungu Combined School and the entire community.

This has been ongoing since last month.

Raina Mungungu Combined School has been without water and electricity since the 30th of March after Nored's transmission transformer failed.

The outage has forced the school to release its learners earlier due to water shortage.

The principal at Raina Mungungu Combined School, Katrina Kudumo, says, "Currently we are running examinations where we need to duplicate papers for examinations, so this has been a challenge for us where we have to move to different schools so that we can duplicate our papers. Even for us as teachers currently, we are unable to bath properly because we do not have water, and we are also unable to keep the learners at school for long."

Kudumo says Nored restored electricity, but  after a few minutes, smoke was seen coming from the transformer.

"We called Nored they responded to take pictures. We took pictures and send to them but after that nothing had been done up to today. Starting from the 31st, up-to-date. We do not have water, we do not have electricity, and it's really a great challenge."

The community of Canchana is also affected, as the local borehole relies on electricity to operate.

Canchana Community Member,Gideon Diwombe said, 'Since the incident occurred, we have been left without water for almost two weeks.' Villagers are now resorting to fetching water from earth dams, and the water is unhygienic; it's not sustainable for human consumption. It's where the cattle are drinking."

The NBC News team reached out to Nored several times for a response, but we could not get an answer after a promise to do so.
