The Ministry of Health and Social Services has finalised the Mental Health Bill and its regulations, which aim to protect the rights of individuals with mental health conditions.

This was mentioned by Dr. Esperance Luvindao in response to Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) leader Longinus Iipumbu's question regarding the suicide cases and efforts the government was making to address the growing mental health crisis.

Dr. Luvindao further explained that "The bill also will allow us to expand facilities where mental health services are offered because the particular bill on the floor allows the minister to designate health facilities as mental health facilities, which will allow us to have a wider scope of facilities offering these services."

"The bill," she said, "will also allow us to expand facilities where mental health services are offered because the particular bill on the floor allows the minister to designate health facilities as mental health facilities, which will allow us to have a wider scope of facilities offering these services."

She further stated that the ministry is continuing hospital development projects and ensuring that all new hospitals include mental units to strengthen service delivery nationwide.

"The ministry is actively engaging, starting with the moving away from just the bulk earthworks of Windhoek District Hospital and now the actual earthworks within the actual fencing of the hospital."
