A high-level stakeholder engagement on information and communication technology (ICT) is underway at the Oshana Regional Council in the Oshana Region, led by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
The engagement is spearheaded by Emma Theofelus as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the ministry, regional leadership, and various stakeholders in the ICT sector.
In her keynote address, Theofelus said the engagement is not only about addressing immediate challenges but also about laying a foundation for a robust and adaptable ICT environment capable of meeting future demand.
She said her ministry’s strategic plan serves as a roadmap to ensure that Namibia fully harnesses the power of technology to create a more inclusive, innovative, and resilient society.
Theofelus further said infrastructure rollout is a priority because it is a bridge to reducing the digital divide, coupled with concerted efforts to develop citizens’ digital skills.
MICT aims to create an environment where every Namibian can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
This calls for the development of a modern legislative framework to drive innovation, protect data privacy, and ensure cybersecurity.
She said the digital economy, as a pillar, seeks to position Namibia as a hub for technological advancement and economic growth.
The discussions are aimed at addressing key issues affecting the ICT sector, including existing challenges, opportunities for growth, digital transformation, and enhanced cooperation among stakeholders to improve service delivery and connectivity across the region.
