Omukwaniilwa gwaNdonga Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo has praised President Netumbo Nandi-Naitiwah for putting into effect Genocide Remembrance Day across the country.
Nangolo said the war did not only affect two tribes, but that men from Ondangwa also took part in the battle under the leadership and command of the late King of Ondonga, Nangolo dhAmutenya, to assist the two tribes who were under attack.
He mentioned that Onamambili village, located in his jurisdiction, was where a Herero family took refuge, a gesture that played a significant role in preserving the tribe.
He called on Namibians to remain united and shun tribalism.
Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi has called on Namibians to build a Namibia where development reaches every community across Namibia’s diverse tribes.
Kathindi said the atrocities committed against the Nama and Herero people by the Germans should be remembered and become a uniting force for all Namibians across various tribes.
