The MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club hosted the ninth edition of its boxing tournament at the ongoing Oshakati Totem Expo at the Oshakati Independence Stadium in the Oshana Region, bringing together amateur boxers from different parts of the country.
Held under the theme "Young Shall Grow", the event attracted emerging boxers from various regions, providing a platform to develop talent and strengthen grassroots boxing in Namibia. The tournament formed part of the Totem Expo celebrations, with 30 boxers competing across several bouts. Female athletes also participated in the competition, while boxers from the host region performed strongly in a number of contests.
Founder and former Olympian Benhard Joseph expressed appreciation to the event's main sponsor, MTC, as well as the Oshakati Town Council for their continued support.“I would like to thank our main sponsor, MTC, for supporting boxing development initiatives such as this one in the north. We also thank the Oshakati Town Council for allowing us to host this event. The tournament was well prepared over the past two months, the boxers were ready, and the clubs responded positively. As you can see, boxing is needed in Namibia,” Joseph said.
Looking ahead, Joseph announced that the upcoming "Young Shall Grow Part 10" tournament will feature more amateur boxers from across the country. He emphasised the importance of increasing female participation to support the continued growth and representation of young women in the sport.
