Vice President Lucia Witbooi has reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing inclusion, empowerment and equal participation for people with disabilities.

She made the remarks at the closing ceremony of National Disability Week 2026 in Lüderitz.

The week-long programme created an inclusive space for people with disabilities to participate in capacity-building exercises aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills on various topics. These activities were designed to improve their abilities and better equip them to utilise their skills effectively.

"As we reflect on the conversations we have shared this week, let us move forward with this momentum, working together to achieve our noble objective of true inclusivity. Let our conversations translate into tangible actions in our quest to build an inclusive society for all our people."

The Vice President said the government is committed to providing financial support, rehabilitation services, and assistive devices like wheelchairs, adding that, despite resource challenges, the government remains dedicated to supporting disability projects across various regions and centres.

"We acknowledge the fact that more work still needs to be done. As a government, we appreciate the support and partnership manifested by all stakeholders in this noble cause. Together we remain committed to ensure that we close the gap in access, participation and representation of persons with disabilities in all sectors of our societies."

The day concluded with an award ceremony where deserving recipients received cash prizes in categories including Best Sportsman and Sportswoman with Disabilities, Best Disability Activist, Best Sports Team for Persons with Disabilities, Best Service Provider, Best Employer, and Best Organisation for Persons with Disabilities.
