Former Brave Gladiators player Vewe Kotjipati, who is based in Germany and plays football for St. Pauli 2, has helped initiate a Heritage Day celebration aimed at bringing Namibians in the diaspora together.
Kotjipati, who also works as a preschool teacher, said the event provides an opportunity for Namibians living abroad to reconnect with their roots and preserve their cultural identity.
The Namibian community in Germany is coming together to celebrate its cultural heritage through Lukopane's annual Heritage Day celebration.
Established in 2025, the event serves as a platform for Namibians living abroad to reconnect with their roots while preserving and sharing their cultural identity with future generations.
The gathering showcases Namibian culture through traditional cuisine, cultural exhibitions, music, dance and live performances.
Kotjipati, who is the founder and part of the organising committee, says the event provides an opportunity for Namibians abroad to strengthen community bonds while celebrating the customs and traditions that unite them.
Now in its second year, the Heritage Day celebration builds on the first event and is expected to attract members of the Namibian community and friends of Namibia.
Distinguished guests expected to attend include the Mayor of Hövelhof, Namibia's Ambassador to Germany Martin Shaanika, who will deliver the keynote address, as well as Namibia's Honorary Consul in Germany.
Through initiatives such as Heritage Day, Lukopane continues to promote unity, cultural pride and a sense of belonging among Namibians living abroad while keeping Namibia's traditions alive beyond its borders.
