Kornelius Shimuafeni, the young boy who was accorded heroes' status by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said he never expected to be honoured for his deed.

For him, it was an act of compassion for fellow human beings in need.

"My name is Kornelius Shimuafeni. I came here today to get recognition – to be recognised as a Namibian hero. When I rescued the twins, I did it on goodwill and not to be recognised. I did not expect this recognition, and I thank the government for this."
