The former Public Service Chairperson (PSC), Salmaan Jacobs, will have to wait longer to hear his fate following a third postponement of his sentencing for a corruption conviction in the Keetmanshoop Regional Court.
Magistrate Frans Anderson postponed the sentencing in which Jacobs is convicted of contravening the Anti-Corruption Act after having obtained gratification of N$30,000 by corruptly using his office or position.
He received N$4,500 of the money, paid into Sadadi Enterprises CC, in which he and his wife hold interest.
The payment followed a project proposal drafted and submitted by Jacobs, in the name of Sadadi, on behalf of his nephew, to the ||Kharas Regional Council. At the time of the offence, between 10 June and 10 July 2006, Jacobs was employed as the Chief Regional Officer of the ||Kharas Regional Council.
During the mitigation of sentencing, Jacobs' lawyer argued an appropriate sentence would be a warning or fine not more than N$ 5000. The state called for a fine of N$20,000 or four years' imprisonment.
Jacobs will return to court for sentencing on 10 July.
