The Namibia Schools Sport Union has launched the National Elite Championships, which will bring together school athletes from across the country.

The three-day competition will take place at Gymnasium Private School in Windhoek from 11 to 13 September, allowing school athletes to compete at national level.

The championships will also provide coaches and sports administrators with an opportunity to assess athletes and identify those who could progress to higher levels of competition.

The event has attracted support from corporate partners, including Model and Top Score, which have come on board as sponsors.

During the official launch, representatives from the two brands explained their decision to support the event and highlighted the role of corporate partnerships in developing school sport.

Top Score Junior Brand Manager Shaniqua Hein said the company was proud to support an event that creates opportunities for young athletes and promotes growth and development.

“Sport is something where opportunities can arise for these kids to position themselves for growth. That’s something Top Score is very passionate about growth and development. As the naming sponsor, we are just so proud to be part of that journey and to create a platform where high schools, families and communities can come together.”

Model Brand Manager Heikeh Sabati said the company’s involvement was about more than simply putting its brand and logo on the event.

“We want to share in this moment and add that it is not about Model putting its brand or logo on an event. It is about being part of an event that reflects the themes that the brand stands for, which are wellness, health and aspiration. At Model, we like to be part of these moments with the community.”

Gymnasium Private School will host the three-day competition in Windhoek.

The school’s Managing Director, Collette Riekert, said hosting the event provides the school with an opportunity to support school sport and create opportunities for young athletes.

“Gymnasium and all the Gymnasium schools in Namibia are not just schools; it’s really about the optimal development of every single child in the school. A very big part of that is the sport and culture that we offer at our schools. It’s not only about our learners in our schools; it’s also about our country and the development that we are already doing and want to continue doing in our country.”

With the event scheduled for 11 to 13 September, preparations will now continue for the participating athletes, coaches and organisers.
