Zambia's President-elect Hakainde Hichilema has called for unity and peace following his re-election.
Supporters of the United Party for National Development, whose president emerged victorious in the just-ended elections, have continued celebrating across the country.
Some farmers have even carried their cattle along as they celebrate the victory in central provincial capital Kabwe.
And the nation, President-elect Hichilema welcomed the tight contest witnessed in this year's elections as healthy for the growth of democracy.
"No winners, no losers. I have already said that; there is only one Zambia, one country, one people, not two. One destiny, better lives for all. One Zambia, one nation, one people. That's who we are."
Meanwhile, the main opposition party, whose coalition sponsored Brian Mundubile as a presidential contender, has conceded defeat. Mundubile ended second after Hichilema.
The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity also conceded the party's defeat. They congratulated Hichilema and the United Party for National Development on the victory.
"As a party that is less than three months old, we are proud that we are now the main opposition political party with over sixty Members of Parliament. This is not a small achievement. "We also congratulate President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND for their victory," expressed Exra Tembo, President of NRPUP
Meanwhile, in the Copperbelt district of Kitwe, chaos erupted when some opposition members took to the street and started looting some businesses before the army was deployed to restore order.
