President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has sent condolences to the people of Norway following the death of their King Harald V, who died on Friday, at the age of 89.

In a letter of condolence to Norway's new King Haakon VIII, President Nandi-Ndaitwah described King Harald V as a dedicated monarch who served his country with dignity, compassion and a strong sense of duty.

King Harald was not directly involved in Namibia's independence struggle; however, Norway supported Namibia during the fight for freedom through political and humanitarian assistance.

This support helped build a strong friendship between the two countries, which continued after Namibia gained independence in 1990.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah says Norway's support remains an important part of the relationship between the two countries.
