The Petroleum Training and Education Fund (PETROFUND) has announced its 2027 scholarship opportunities, opening doors for young Namibians to pursue studies in key fields linked to the petroleum industry.

PETROFUND has been at the forefront of developing Namibian talent through training, education and scholarships.

Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations at PETROFUND, Shoki Kandjimi, said that since its inception, the institution has trained and funded scholarships for over 500 Namibians, with about 90 specialists already within the industry.

He stated that this year, the institution will be targeting individuals who want to obtain master's qualifications to increase the number of specialists within the country.

The revised text could read as follows:

"This year, we are concentrating on several key areas, including petroleum engineering, petroleum ICT, and robotics. It is evident that technology is becoming increasingly important. Additionally, we are focusing on petroleum finance and economics, as these professionals are essential; the movement of money will always be a factor. Furthermore, we are prioritising petroleum law, especially considering that Namibia is currently in negotiations for its first final investment decision."

Kandjimi also gave clarity on the necessary requirements when applying for the scholarships.

"Of course, the number one requirement that you always have is that you need to be a Namibian. You must remember that we are speaking about local content. So definitely we are prioritising Namibians to participate in these scholarship opportunities. Of course, secondly, you need to have an average of 60% in the final year modules of your own degree."

Those who want to apply for the scholarship can access the PETROFUND website to apply online or obtain an application form at any regional council office across all 14 regions.

The deadline for application submissions is the 30th of October.
