President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has unveiled a 176.29-carat diamond at the NAMDEB Centre.

The diamond, discovered on 10 May 2026 at the Southern Coastal Mine in Oranjemund, is the largest diamond recovered in Namibia in nearly two decades.

The President named the diamond “Owishi,” an Oshiwambo word referring to a rare form of honey.

Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah says the discovery holds the promise of contributing to national prosperity.

She further highlighted Namibia’s natural diamond resources as a catalyst for growth in the mining sector, economic diversification and the funding of public services.

The President also called for continued efforts to strengthen Namibia’s position in the global diamond market and foster partnerships across the industry.
