The Directorate of Veterinary Services has confirmed 79 new cases of FMD across 11 farms in the Karasburg State Veterinary District.
Agriculture Minister Inge Zaamwani provided an update.
“Surveillance, clinical inspections, laboratory testing, and livestock traceability remain central to our response. These activities are particularly important because the movement of livestock between farms, livestock markets, holding facilities, and abattoirs can create pathways for the spread of the disease. The Ministry has deployed 13 surveillance teams in the affected areas, and as of the 2nd of October 2026, a total of 15,096 animals have been inspected; while 66 farms from the targeted 81 have been inspected, the remaining 15 farms are expected to be completed by 5 October 2026. Livestock movements associated with 47 establishments within a 30-kilometer radius of the affected areas have been investigated, extending to approximately 50 kilometers of affected premises.”
