The Swapo Party Women's Council's Regional Information and Mobilisation Officer for Zambezi, Ruthy Masake has described the decision to host the 9th Women Congress in the region as a major achievement.
The Congress is scheduled to take place from 09 to 11 December at Katima Mulilo.
"The decision is a great responsibility and an important opportunity for the Zambezi Region. We therefore called on all structures, members, communities, stakeholders and supporters in the region to work together to ensure the successful hosting of the congress.”
An extraordinary Central Committee meeting held at Kamanjab in September nominated Francina Kahungu as the sole candidate for Secretary of the Women Council and Maria Ntusi as Deputy Secretary.
About 800 women are expected to attend the Congress.
Masake explained that the event will also create economic opportunities for businesses in the region, particularly small-scale enterprises.
"So far we have managed to secure their accommodation; we have gotten the accommodation for all the delegates, so in terms of business, this will improve our economical capacity, so it's only for the region now to start preparing and see if they'll be able to feed such a big number. For small-scale businesses, this is the opportunity that they have in order to engage, to come and provide whatever they can.”
The regional leadership called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful hosting of the Congress.
