Around 60 Namibian Members of Parliament are among 600 parliamentarians from 73 countries who signed a letter to the United Nations denouncing US President Joe Biden's designation of Cuba as a "state sponsor of terrorism."

Two former Namibian heads of state are among a group of 35 former presidents who have urged the president of the United States of America to remove Cuba from the list of countries accused of supporting terrorism.

Namibian judiciary welcomed Dr. Rubén Remigio Ferro, the President of the People's Supreme Court of the Republic of Cuba, on an official visit aimed at deepening judicial cooperation between the two nations. 

A motion that seeks to ratify the agreement between Namibia and Cuba for the transfer of convicted persons has been tabled in the National Assembly.

This agreement underscores commitment to the social rehabilitation of offenders, enabling them to serve their sentences in their home countries.

The National Assembly has condemned the continued listing of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism by the US, arguing it undermines Cuba's contributions to international peace and security. 

On April 16, 2024, the National Assembly passed a resolution urging the US to delist Cuba.

Cuba has decreed an official day and a half of mourning in honour of the memory of the late President Hage Geingob.

Namibia will intensify its efforts to strengthen support for Cuba, particularly in the areas of health, education, and the economy in general.

Cuba has bestowed its highest honour, the Order of José Martí, on President Hage Geingob.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez made the announcement at State House in Windhoek.
