Namibia, Botswana launched joint civil-military cooperation plan

Namibia and Botswana today launched a joint civil-military cooperation plan aimed at sensitising communities living along the common border about the importance of peaceful coexistence and good neighbourliness.

The launch took place in Kasane, Botswana.

The first four-day sensitization campaign will take place in July and will focus on illegal border crossings, illegal fishing, poaching, and the smuggling of arms and ammunition. The second campaign, which will focus on human-wildlife conflict, is scheduled for August.

Justice Minister presents "modernised" divorce bill for civil marriages

The Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, has presented a bill in the National Assembly aimed at modernising divorce legislation for civil marriages.

The bill seeks to remove antiquated grounds for divorce, establish guidelines for child custody and support, manage financial implications post-divorce or annulment, and ensure procedural privacy.

Dausab has called for amendments to court laws to enhance the efficiency of divorce proceedings.

The bill aims to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all parties involved in the divorce proceedings.

Namibia holds brighter future for its people - Sinimbo

Namibia has made significant strides in various areas, including education, democracy, healthcare, and economic development since gaining independence 34 years ago.

The Deputy Minister of Industrialization and Trade, Verna Sinimbo, made these remarks while addressing residents of Oranjemund over the weekend. Deputy Minister Sinimbo further stated that Namibia has also established itself as a respected member of the international community, contributing to peacekeeping efforts and regional cooperation.

Government economic reforms reason for Moody's positive rating

The global credit rating agency Moody's has upgraded Namibia's sovereign rating outlook from 'stable' to 'positive'. This notable improvement reflects the successful implementation of economic reforms and a conducive external environment that has fostered economic growth. 

Finance Minister Iipumbu Shiimi said this in Parliament, highlighting the collective efforts that have driven this achievement.

Namibia's debt declining at manageable levels - Shiimi

Namibia's borrowing and debt levels have been a concern in recent years, but are now under control and are showing a decline since the beginning of this year.
 
Finance and Public Enterprises Minister, Iipumbu Shiimi, said the country's debt level is still sustainable and within controllable levels.

Shiimi said this during an interview with the Business Today show focusing on the state of the Namibian economy.

Late Chief Riruako remembered as a bridge builder

Ovaherero and Ovambenderu communities gathered at Okahitua Village over the weekend to remember the legacy of the late Ombara Otjitambi, Kuaima Riruako.

One of the most significant legacies of Chief Riruako is his decisive leadership on the issue of genocide reparations, among others.

The late Chief Kuaima Riruako died on June 2, 2014, after leading the ovaHerero communities for more than 30 years, succeeding the late Clemence Kapuuo.

Namibia and Tanzania seek to explore new investment opportunities

In order to explore opportunities in trade and investment between Namibia and Tanzania, the two countries hosted a business and investment forum in Windhoek.

Namibia and Tanzania share a strong history dating back to the liberation struggle, where Tanzania assisted Namibia in achieving its independence.

Namibia currently, among others, imports maize, rice, vegetables, and cement from Tanzania.

Tanzania produces and exports products in raw form, such as cotton, textiles, and minerals.

NDF, BDF sign cooperation agreement to harmonise border communities

A joint civil-military cooperation plan to sensitise communities residing along the Namibia and Botswana borders with legal movements has been signed between the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) at Katima Mulilo.

The launch of the awareness activities plan will be held on the 11th and 13th of next month in Kasane, Botswana, and Katima Mulilo, respectively, under the theme. "Working Together to Ensure Peaceful Co-existence, Security, and Human Development."
