South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called for greater technological, financial and medical sovereignty for the Global South during the closing session of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday.

President Hage Geingob is concerned about the future of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), as it appears to be at a standstill with tariffs affecting development.

Dr. Geingob pointed out that Namibia is like a beggar, something that has to be earnestly discussed.

The BRICS grouping can be used as a platform to counter ideas that try to downplay Africa's voice, Namibia included, in international matters.

BRICS held its 15th summit between August 22 and August 24 in South Africa, where new members were admitted.

Namibian President Hage Geingob says the discussions at the BRICS summit will also include the aspect of inclusion since more countries have expressed interest in joining the grouping.

Namibia is among the more than 50 countries invited to the BRICS summit, which started today in Sandton, South Africa.
