Vice President, Lucia Witbooi has bid farewell to members of the 6th National Council on behalf of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, reflecting on a term defined by diligence and dedication to the people of Namibia.

Members of the National Assembly (NA) have expressed their support for the Land Bill recently tabled by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform (MAFWLR). 

Swapo Party MP, Iipumbu Shiimi, gave a report from the Standing Committee on the stakeholders' interface and oversight workshop held in August, focusing on economy, industry, public administration and planning. 

Members of the sixth National Council held their farewell event on Wednesday, where they took a moment to reflect on their achievements and growth over the past five years.

The event coincided with the launch of the sixth National Council Legacy Report.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao, has said provision will be made for persons with mental health conditions to be involuntarily admitted if an application is made by a social worker or family member.

Opposition parties in the National Assembly have rejected the recently tabled Regional Councils Amendment Bill by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa.

Opposition MPs argue that the Bill seeks to centralise responsibilities and undermine the autonomy of regional councils.

The Minister of Finance has said the government does not borrow money for consumption purposes, adding that domestic revenue is sufficient to cover operational expenses.

This was Ericah Shafudah's response to concerns raised by members of parliament regarding the recently tabled Appropriation Bill.

The ballot papers for the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections arrived this afternoon.

Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Commissioner Pius Iikwambi said out of four international bids submitted, Uni Print, a South African company, was selected at a cost of around N$3.8 million.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN) consecrated its new Bishop Abraham ||Keibeb at an event in Okahandja.

Bishop ||Keibeb, who was consecrated along with his deputy, Bishop Lorenst Kuzatjike, will serve for six years.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has conveyed her sympathies to the citizens and the government of Botswana, along with the grieving family, regarding the death of the former Ambassador of Botswana to the United Nations, Legwaila Joseph Legwaila.
