Road accidents and crashes have claimed 44 lives in the Omaheke Region since 2024. During the period under review, more than 300 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund says pedestrian road-related crashes remain a challenge despite the introduction of the pedestrian safety initiative.

Rosalia Martins-Hausiku said this at the Public Enterprise Breakfast held in Windhoek.

Namibia has recorded 448 road fatalities from January to November. This is an increase from last year's 376 crashes, which are said to be caused mainly by speeding.

Kavango West Region has recorded 19 road fatalities this year.

Road crashes also increased by 115 cases, compared to last year.

In 2025, Kavango West recorded a total number of 307 crashes involving 332 vehicles.

One hundred and thirty-two people sustained serious to slight injuries.

The latest police figures indicate that 99 people have died on Namibia's roads between January and the 23rd of March.

Head of NamPol's Traffic Law Enforcement, Commissioner Petrus Swartz, said 632 accidents caused injury to 1,018 people.
