Former Robben Island political prisoner Jerry Ekandjo has described the late Helao Shityuwete as a national hero.

Family and friends of the late freedom fighter, Helao Shityuwete, have reflected on his contribution to Namibia's liberation struggle and the personal memories that defined his life.

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba joined the family of the late Helao Shityuwete at his home to offer condolences.

The liberation icon and former Robben Island prisoner died aged 92 last Friday.
