The Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao, has declared a polio outbreak and announced a third nationwide vaccination campaign from 20 to 23 April 2026 for children aged 10 and below.

Members of Parliament from the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) boycotted the second State of the Nation Address delivered by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, saying the exercise no longer adds meaningful value to national debate.

On the issue of reparations by Germany and the Joint Declaration on the Herero-Nama genocide, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the government is aware of the comparisons being made with Germany's reparations to Jewish victims but cautioned against viewing the processes as identical.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the importance of supporting the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) but pushed back against the idea that increased funding alone would solve the problem.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on Namibians to join hands and fight corruption.

In terms of corruption perception, the Transparency International Index ranks Namibia with a score of 58 out of 100 and at position 65 out of 182 countries in 2025, a decline of three points from the previous year.

A resolution is imminent in the decade-long negotiations between the Namibian and German governments regarding the apology and reparations for the 1904-1908 Ovaherero and Nama genocide.
