Preparations are well on track for the 35th Heroes Day commemoration, which will be hosted in the Zambezi Region.

The three accused arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday on corruption charges related to a Zambezi Waterfront tender made their first court appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrates' Court on Friday.
 

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, met with traditional authorities about the removal of the local authority councillors and other developments at Katima Mililo.

Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa said members of the Katima Mulilo town council management were given ample time to respond to allegations of mismanagement made against them.

Residents of Katima Mulilo have welcomed the dissolution of the town council, expressing dissatisfaction with alleged poor decision-making and mismanagement over the years.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has officially dissolved the Katima Mulilo Town Council as gazetted on August 15.

Only two former councillors from IPC and NDP attended the announcement, while the Swapo Party and PDM were absent.

The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has spoken out against the removal of the Katima Mulilo Town Council, saying the decision by the minister goes against the Constitution.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has removed all members of the Katima Mulilo Town Council from office and taken over their responsibilities with immediate effect.

 The decision was published in the Government Gazette on August 15. 

The National Democratic Party (NDP) held its first meeting at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region on Sunday to welcome its president since he joined the National Assembly in March of this year.

Health and Social Services Minister Dr. Esperance Luvindao has said that 95,729 cumulative malaria cases were recorded countrywide since the outbreak began in 2024.
