Police in Rehoboth have launched motor clearance services, marking a milestone in improving service delivery to the community.
The initiative aims to streamline processes and ensure compliance with traffic regulations and other legal requirements.
The launch of the motor vehicle clearance unit demonstrates a commitment to accessibility and efficiency by simplifying the process of obtaining essential documents.
Rehoboth Station Commander Sidney Philander highlighted that motor vehicle theft continues to pose challenges nationwide, fueling cross-border crimes.
Philander emphasized that these crimes threaten economic stability and erode public trust in the criminal justice system.
He further assured that the police will work tirelessly to ensure public safety and maintain order, particularly during the festive season.
“As part of this operation, the successes thereof include the reduction of drug and driving cases in Rehoboth. People that are driving under the influence of alcohol—about 36 people have been arrested for drug and driving— and then recently, in the last operation, 12 people have been arrested. What are we trying to tell you? We are not hunting people to lock them up; we are there to prevent crime.”
The Governor of the Hardap Region, Salomon April, suggested that Rehoboth also consider establishing a driver's clearance center in the future.
“Make up a drivers clearance center so that we can get them before they drive, so we can get them cleared, and in that way, we will have fewer road accidents in this country. Even if they are not on drugs, they need to be cleared so that we can ensure they are also psychologically alright.”
