President Nangolo Mbumba has expressed concern over the ongoing situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), warning that it could escalate beyond its borders and affect the entire region.

Addressing members of the diplomatic community accredited to Namibia, Dr. Mbumba emphasised the need for stability in the region. His remarks came during the annual New Year's Greetings ceremony, underway at State House.

"Namibia will continue to advocate for dialogue to bring warring parties to the negotiating table, thereby giving sustainable peace and stability a chance. The current situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is of great concern to us. This conflict has the potential to spill over into a regional conflict. We thus welcome the Extraordinary Summit of the SADC Heads of State and Government convened today by the Chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in Harare, Zimbabwe, to find a lasting solution in our sister SADC country. In this context, Namibia reaffirms the United Nations Charter and its principles of resolving disputes among nations through diplomatic means."
