The leaders of some traditional authorities in the Omaheke Region said they are in agreement with the commemoration of the Genocide Remembrance Day on the 28th of May.

Ombara Tjozohongo || Nguvauva of the Ovambanderu Traditional Authority pointed out that all Namibians need to contribute meaningfully towards the Genocide Remembrance Day.

Ombara Nguvauva added that observing the day is also a symbol of hope for the affected communities.

"To our Vice President who's here, the 28th of May is a very important day and belongs to all the Namibians. It does not belong to a certain ethnic group. As a traditional leader, I'm requesting this through our Vice President and our governor: that this day should unite all of us through various cultural activities of our people so that it can give a unique respect to our forefathers."

Kgosi Andrew Kgosimang of the Batswana ba Namibia said the genocide remembrance day will add momentum to the ongoing genocide discussions.

"We will use this opportunity to be honest about how this day is important to us and how best we can address this while at the same time honouring our brave ancestors who sacrificed their lives so that we can live in a peaceful Namibia today."

Vice President Lucia Witbooi acknowledged that genocide carries a vast history amongst the affected communities; therefore, the remembrance day is one of the components towards the whole process of the genocidal activities.

"Our government has honoured that day and set a date aside to be remembered, just like the Cassinga Day; therefore, we must just be thankful. So for the first time, this day will be commemorated, but still these talks have been going on for years, and still the President feels we should go and tell our people and invite them."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate said the significance of the Genocide Remembrance Day is to unite all the affected communities.

"People were killed; hence, they deserve restitution, and their history should be told and given the prominence it so deserves, and this is what the Namibian government is doing, and I'll take off my head for the Namibian government for restituting justice and for making sure the history of this country is told across the length and breadth. As such, I'm applauding the government of the day for the move that, as a nation, we observed the remembrance day scheduled for the 28th of May 2025."
