Press Secretary at the Presidency Dr. Alfredo Hengari has confirmed the resignation of Agriculture Minister Mac Albert Hengari.

Hengari was appointed to the portfolio by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on 22 March; he occupied the position for 27 days.

Hengari's resignation comes after his arrest on Saturday.

According to police chief Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, the former minister was arrested together with another person. Shikingo did not divulge the reasons for his arrest.

The minister is also facing investigations into 11 charges, ranging from kidnapping, rape, and assault.
