Namibia's representative at the 72nd Miss World pageant, Selma Kamanya, departed for India today, where she will participate in the event taking place on the 31st of May in Hyderabad.

At a send-off event on Saturday night, Kamanya revealed the national costume she will wear, inspired by the radiant beauty and rhythm of the Namibian sun.

The national costume is titled "Sunrise and Sunset: A Dance of Light and Grace".

The designers explained that the costume blends traditional Himba and Oshiwambo influences with storytelling through movement, rooted in Namibian heritage.

The costume changes colours from bright gold and oranges to deep reds and rich browns, echoing the Namibian sunset.

Miss World Namibia was handpicked by the Miss NGO Namibia organisation to represent the country at the Miss World pageant.

The selection of Miss World Namibia was done based on who is eligible, aged no older than 28, not married, does not have children, and has a beautiful heart.

Kamanya was then selected among other participants after interviews and nominations by the National Director for Miss NGO Namibia and Miss World Namibia Pageant, Marco Coetzee.

The Miss NGO Organisation pledged its support for Kamaya and called on the whole nation to rally behind her.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Fredrick Nghiholwa said it is a giant responsibility that is placed on Kamanya's shoulders, and Namibians need to unite in prayer, as she represents the country on international stages.

The Miss World hopeful promised to represent the country with dignity and authenticity.

"As I embark on this journey, I carry both your hopes and your dreams with me. I promise to represent our country with dignity, with passion, and with heart. One of the things that I vow to do differently this time is to be more authentic."
