It has been 14 years, and the Masokotwani Development Centre in Katima Mulilo is still incomplete due to underfunding.

The construction of the centre started in 2011, but so far, only the guard house and the administration office that includes a community hall with a capacity of 100 people, a parking area and an access road to the centre are completed.

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu and Chief Regional Officer of the Zambezi Regional Council Regina Ndopu-Lubinda registered their disappointment of underfunding with the Minister of Urban and Rural Development at Masokotwani.

Ndopu-Lubinda noted that the estimated cost of the hospitality area was about 20 million dollars in 2011, while the workshop area was 40 million dollars.

She stressed that, despite the verbal commitment from the ministry, the funds needed to complete the project have not been forthcoming, adding more frustration to the regional council.

Ndopu-Lubinda has appealed to the minister to source funds to complete the project at least in the next three years.
