The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, said he was disappointed to learn when he took over the ministry that the Masokotwani project remained incomplete because of financial mismanagement by the Zambezi Regional Council.

That, he said, was the reason why the government is reluctant to allocate funds to the project.

The minister stated that he will soon call for an urgent meeting between the Zambezi Regional Council and the ministry's staff to explain to him why the Masokotwani Development Centre has been stalled for 15 years.

He emphasised the need to account for every cent.

The district headman of Masokotwani, Mathews Mathe, also expressed disappointment over the incomplete project.

Mathe says the people have no problem with the government, but he has reservations about certain employees of the government who have been tasked with responsibilities.

He also questioned why the government has failed to take action against underperforming employees.
