The Executive Director in the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, Ben Nangombe, said the 8th administration has set a tone of urgency and implementation for national projects, anchored by the Swapo Party Manifesto 2024 and its implementation plan to accelerate service provision.
Nangombe emphasised at a meeting with Namibia's electricity distribution sector in Ondangwa that the electricity and energy sector is a critical enabler for implementing various projects across all sectors.
He stressed that those leading the electricity and energy sectors must ensure that access to electricity is achieved.
Nangombe urged sector leaders not to question whether current plans are achievable but rather to ask how they will accomplish them through the mandate bestowed upon them by the President.
He added that the implementation of electrification projects is moving at a snail's pace, with annual connections only amounting to a mere three thousand to five thousand households.
"We must prioritise and harvest the low-hanging fruit. This means pursuing and implementing electrification projects in densely populated, low-cost-per-connection areas and localities. These connections can generate revenue, stabilise distributors, and give them the strength to push the grid further into remote areas."
He emphasised that all stakeholders must be aligned and operate with dedication to build a strong foundation for success across all areas of their operations.
"We cannot afford to repeat mistakes. We must institutionalise learning and build stronger, more transparent processes. As a ministry responsible for national electrification, we will not countenance underperformance, delays, or bureaucratic excuses. For this reason, we must work as one system that is aligned, accountable, and absolutely committed to excellence at all times."
Nangombe also paid a visit to various projects in the Oshikoto Region, including some at Onandjaba village, Elavi Primary School and Elavi village, among others.
