A group of about 12 temporary workers in the Department of Roads Maintenance and Storm Water at the Keetmanshoop Municipality have expressed dissatisfaction over what they term unfair treatment at work.
The group alleges incidents of harassment and bullying at the local authority.
One of the bones of contention that the workers expressed to nbc News is that they received their contracts two weeks before the end of the contract period expired.
The temporary fixed contracts that are in nbc's possession indicate that the employment is of a temporary casual nature and will commence on the 1st of last month and shall automatically be terminated without further notice on the 31st of this month.
Expressing their dissatisfaction, the workers claim that the Human Resources department at the municipality never took them through the contracts but rather threatened them that failure to sign would be an automatic termination of the contract.
Most of the workers have been working for the municipality for more than one year.
The Head of Human Resources at the Keetmanshoop Municipality, Adam Isaaks, confirmed that the workers were employed on a temporary basis.
On the issue of the three workers whose contracts were terminated, the HR officer said that ill-discipline and not turning up for work were the main reasons why their contracts were not extended.
The workers vowed to take the matter further to seek justice.
